Enneagram 101

Stemming from the Greek word ennea (nine) and grammos (a written symbol), the nine-pointed graft represents nine distinct PERSONALITY TYPES relating to the self and others. Each Enneagram type has a different pattern of thinking, feeling and acting that arises from a deeper inner DRIVE. The Enneagram describes the energy and forces that drives your personality.

  1. Do the Right Thing/The Reformer
  2. To Be Loved
  3. The Achiever
  4. To Be Special
  5. The Thinker
  6. Safety and Security
  7. To Have Fun/Avoid Pain
  8. Self Reliant
  9. The Peacemaker

The Enneagram helps us begin an honest interrogation of the depths of our identity, of who we really are. The Enneagram fosters greater understanding through a universal language that transcends gender, religion, nationality and culture. While we are all unique, we share common experiences. Through the nine personality types, we can see the ways people meet life’s challenges and opportunities. Determining our personality type through the Enneagram does not put us in a box, but helps us see the box from which we view the world. With this awareness, we can step outside of our limited perspective. Ideally, personality is an effective way to express ourselves, but challenges arise when our point of view becomes rigid and we get stuck in automatic habits. By discovering these unconscious patterns, we can lead more fulfilling lives, enjoy healthier relationships, and connect to our true essence.

Personal note: This was one of the most outstanding pieces of information I have studied in over 45 years. The Enneagrams accelerated my understanding of myself and everyone around me, including people I met for the first time.  I highly recommend this tool.
